Five Drug Peddlers Arrested in Sopore and Pulwama with Major Contraband Seizure

Five arrested in J&K’s Sopore and Pulwama for drug peddling with recovery of Codeine Phosphate and charas.

Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday arrested five individuals in separate operations targeting drug trafficking in Baramulla and Pulwama districts, marking a major breakthrough in the ongoing anti-narcotics drive. Authorities seized substantial quantities of contraband, including Codeine Phosphate and charas-like substances, during these operations.

In Sopore, police apprehended two additional suspects, Mohd Umar Dar and Nisar Ahmad Bhat, based on disclosures from previously arrested accused. Searches led to the recovery of multiple bottles of Codeine Phosphate, highlighting a wider drug peddling network in the area. Investigation into the supply chain is ongoing, with further arrests expected.

A separate operation at Hadipora Crossing under Police Station Dangiwacha resulted in the arrest of Farooq Ahmad Malla after he attempted to flee during a naka check. Police recovered a charas-like substance from his possession, and a case under the NDPS Act has been registered for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Pulwama Police intercepted a vehicle at Hawal Naka near Bridge, seizing 11 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from the driver Mohd Fahad and co-driver Aman. Both, residents of Uttar Pradesh, were arrested immediately, and FIR No. 08/2026 has been registered at Police Station Rajpora.

Police officials reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, emphasizing intelligence-driven operations and public cooperation. Authorities urged citizens to report any information related to drug networks to help curb the menace and protect youth and society from narcotics.

These coordinated efforts reflect Jammu and Kashmir Police’s sustained crackdown on drug smuggling and peddling, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to dismantling organized narcotics networks across the union territory.
