Fire Safety Violations Lead To Closure Of 13 Hotels And Coaching Centre In Ahmedabad

Fire safety violations lead to sealing of hotels and coaching centre.

The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services have launched a large-scale enforcement drive across the city, sealing 13 hotels and one coaching institute while issuing notices to over 200 establishments for failing to comply with mandatory fire safety regulations.

The city-wide inspection campaign targeted high-footfall commercial, hospitality, and educational institutions to assess compliance with fire safety norms. Authorities said the drive is part of an ongoing effort to prevent fire-related hazards and ensure public safety in densely populated urban areas.

During the operation, fire officials issued warning notices to 154 hotels and 62 educational institutions, including coaching centres, for violations ranging from inadequate safety equipment to missing or expired fire safety clearances. Officials stated that compliance with safety protocols is mandatory and non-negotiable.

In cases where violations were found to be severe or where safety systems were completely absent, authorities took stricter action by sealing 13 hotels and one prominent coaching institute. The Navkar Institute was among the establishments that faced closure, alongside several hotels in different parts of the city.

Zone-wise data from the inspection revealed that the West Zone recorded the highest number of violations, with notices issued to 47 hotels and 12 educational institutions, along with the sealing of seven hotels. The North West Zone also witnessed significant enforcement action, leading to the closure of six establishments, including Hotel Fiza, Hotel Char Food, Hotel Fountain, Apollo Hotel, Hotel Grand Inn, and Hotel Lake Palace.

Officials further noted that inspections were conducted across all municipal zones, including Central, South West, East, South, and North zones, where dozens of hotels and educational institutions were flagged for corrective action. Authorities warned that future violations could result in immediate shutdowns and legal proceedings.

Fire officials emphasised that the inspection drive will continue across Ahmedabad on an ongoing basis. They added that any establishment found operating without valid fire safety certification or adequate emergency preparedness measures will face strict penalties, including sealing and possible prosecution under applicable safety laws.
