FIR Filed Against Mamata Banerjee At Siliguri Cyber Crime Police Station
Complaint cites remarks made during Kolkata protest meeting.
An FIR has been registered against former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over alleged provocative remarks concerning the Union Home Ministry during a recent public meeting in Kolkata. The case was lodged at the Siliguri Cyber Crime Police Station following a complaint filed by advocate Rinki Sen Chatterjee. The development has sparked fresh political controversy, with the allegations centering on statements made by Banerjee during a protest gathering held on Rani Rashmoni Road on June 2.
According to the complaint, Banerjee referred to the murder of Bangladesh national Osman Hadi and allegedly made remarks linking the incident to the Union Home Ministry and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The complainant argued that such statements were serious in nature and could have wider diplomatic and security implications. Police officials confirmed that an FIR had been registered and that the matter would be examined in accordance with legal procedures.
Advocate Rinki Sen Chatterjee stated that Osman Hadi was killed in Bangladesh in December last year and that the accused later crossed into India through the Meghalaya border before entering West Bengal. She claimed that the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) subsequently arrested the suspects. According to the complaint, Banerjee’s comments suggested that she possessed information regarding those responsible for the murder and implied involvement of the Union Home Ministry, a claim the complainant described as unsubstantiated and inflammatory.

During her address at the protest meeting, Banerjee referred to the arrest of a Bangladeshi accused by the STF and the subsequent reaction in Bangladesh. She stated that individuals entered West Bengal through Meghalaya and were later apprehended by law enforcement agencies. Banerjee also remarked that she had refrained from discussing certain aspects of the matter previously but had decided to do so publicly during the gathering. Her comments quickly drew attention and triggered political debate.
The complainant further alleged that the remarks could strain relations between India and Bangladesh and potentially affect India's international image. She contended that such statements could create misunderstandings regarding the handling of cross-border criminal investigations and may have broader implications for regional stability. The complaint also claimed that the comments could adversely impact the security of minority communities in Bangladesh by fuelling unnecessary tensions.
The FIR marks the latest episode in the ongoing political exchanges between opposition leaders and the Centre. As investigations proceed, authorities are expected to examine the content of the speech, the circumstances surrounding the complaint and whether any legal provisions were violated. No official response from Banerjee regarding the FIR had been reported at the time of filing this report.
