Faridabad Stalker Who Shot Class 12 Student Arrested, Injured in Police Encounter

Faridabad stalker Jatin Mangla shot in leg during police encounter after gunning down Class 12 girl.

A 21-year-old man accused of stalking and shooting a Class 12 student in Faridabad has been arrested following a police encounter, during which he sustained a bullet injury to his leg. The accused, identified as Jatin Mangla, was shot while attempting to flee during a weapon recovery operation. He has been hospitalised and is said to be out of danger. The horrifying attack, captured on CCTV, sparked outrage and led to a swift, multi-team manhunt by police.

The incident occurred on Monday in Ballabhgarh when the 17-year-old girl was returning home with her friends. Mangla allegedly approached her in a narrow alley and fired two rounds from a pistol. One bullet struck her shoulder, while the other grazed her abdomen. The girl was rushed to a local hospital where she remains under treatment. The footage of the attack showed the girl collapsing on the spot as the accused fled the scene on a motorcycle.

According to Varun Dahiya, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Mangla had been stalking and harassing the victim for weeks before the attack. “He procured eight SIM cards in a month to contact the girl from different numbers. We also found that he was carrying multiple weapons. He dropped the pistol used in the attack but hid another gun near his residence,” Dahiya said. The police deployed five dedicated teams to track him down.

After his arrest, Mangla led authorities to the location where he had hidden his second firearm. During the recovery, he reportedly fired at the officers in an attempt to escape, prompting police to respond with controlled firing that injured him in the leg. “He tried to shoot at the police team, but we managed to neutralize him. None of the officers were injured in the exchange,” Dahiya confirmed.

In a warning to potential offenders, the senior officer said strong action will be taken against anyone involved in such crimes. “Those engaged in stalking, harassment, or violent behavior should surrender voluntarily. Otherwise, they will face similar consequences,” he stated. The victim’s family revealed that the accused had been harassing the girl for several days and had even been confronted once before. “His mother pleaded that he wouldn’t do it again, so we didn’t file a complaint. We should have — the next day he shot her,” the victim’s sister told NDTV. The incident has reignited discussions on women’s safety and the need for stricter enforcement of anti-stalking laws.
