Family Suspects Possession in Haryana Woman's Chilling Child Killings Confession
Haryana woman Poonam confesses to killing four children; family claims occult possession, police cite mental disorder.
A chilling development has emerged in the case of Poonam, a Haryana woman accused of killing four children over three years, as her family claims that occult practices may have influenced her actions. Relatives allege that Poonam occasionally spoke in a "strange voice" and may have been "possessed," though police insist her behavior stems from a psychological disorder.
The case came to light after Poonam’s six-year-old niece, Vidhi, was found dead in a water tub during a wedding in Naultha village, Panipat, on December 1. What the family initially considered an accident unraveled when Poonam confessed to murdering Vidhi and three other children over the past three years.
According to relatives, all four killings—of Jiya, Ishika, Shubham, and Vidhi—occurred on Ekadashi, and all victims were drowned. Some family members pointed to a tantric angle, noting that Poonam had reportedly visited a tantric in Kairana, Uttar Pradesh, and may have been affected by spirits.

Police, however, have dismissed any connection to the occult. Panipat SP Bhupendra Singh said Poonam, 32, exhibited psychopathic tendencies, lacked remorse, and had a diagnosed mental disorder for which she was on medication. Her actions, according to investigators, were driven by a compulsion to harm children she perceived as more attractive than her own.
Poonam’s mother, Sunita, stated that her daughter appeared normal during home visits and emphasized that justice should take its course if she is found guilty. The accused has been sent to jail, and police may seek her custody again following the filing of a second FIR.
The case has sparked widespread attention and debate over mental health awareness and the dangers of misinterpreting psychological disorders as supernatural phenomena, highlighting the complexities in investigating crimes with disturbing and inexplicable elements.
