Family Questions Negligence After FinMin Official Dies in Delhi BMW Accident
Senior official dead, three injured in horrific Ring Road collision.
A tragic accident on Delhi’s Ring Road near the Delhi Cantonment metro station claimed the life of Navjot Singh, a 52-year-old Deputy Secretary in the Union Ministry of Finance’s Department of Economic Affairs, on Sunday, September 14, 2025. The fatal collision, which occurred in broad daylight, involved a BMW X5 allegedly driven by a woman that struck Singh’s motorcycle, leaving his wife and two others injured and sparking outrage over alleged hospital negligence.
The incident unfolded in the afternoon on the busy Dhaula Kuan-Delhi Cantt stretch, prompting three PCR calls reporting a severe traffic jam near metro pillar number 67. Police arrived to find the BMW overturned on its side and Singh’s motorcycle abandoned near the road divider. Eyewitnesses recounted that the BMW, driven by a woman accompanied by her husband, a Gurugram-based businessman, rammed into the motorcycle from behind, causing catastrophic damage to the car’s front end. Singh, who was driving the motorcycle with his 50-year-old wife riding pillion, bore the brunt of the impact.
The couple in the BMW rushed Singh and his wife to a hospital in a taxi, but Singh succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. His wife, a teacher, suffered a head injury despite wearing a helmet and a fractured femur, and she remains under treatment. The BMW’s occupants also sustained injuries and are hospitalized, with police yet to record their statements due to their medical condition.

Singh’s son, devastated by the loss, revealed that his parents were returning home to Hari Nagar after visiting Bangla Sahib Gurdwara and stopping at Karnataka Bhawan for a meal. He alleged gross negligence by the hospital, claiming his parents were taken to a facility 22 km from the accident site instead of a closer one. “My mother, seriously injured, was left in the hospital lobby, while the BMW driver’s husband, with minor injuries, was promptly admitted,” he told PTI Videos. “This delay and negligence cost my father his life, and my mother was left screaming in pain.” The family later transferred her to Venkateshwara Hospital for better care.
Police have seized both the BMW and the motorcycle, and a crime team, supported by Forensic Science Laboratory experts, is investigating the scene. “An FIR is being registered, and a thorough probe is underway,” a senior police officer stated. The accident temporarily disrupted traffic, but normalcy was restored after the damaged vehicles were cleared.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through Delhi’s bureaucratic community. Udit Arya, President of the Central Secretariat Services Forum, expressed grief on X, stating, “Heartfelt condolences to the family of Navjyot Singh sir who tragically lost his life. We urge @PMOIndia and @DelhiPolice to ensure a thorough investigation and justice for the bereaved family.” Public outcry has intensified over the alleged hospital mismanagement and the delay in treatment, with Singh’s son and community leaders demanding accountability.
As investigations continue, questions linger about road safety on Delhi’s congested arteries and the responsiveness of emergency medical services. The loss of a senior official in such a horrific manner has underscored the need for stricter traffic enforcement and improved trauma care protocols. For Singh’s family, the grief is compounded by the belief that timely medical intervention might have saved his life, leaving them to navigate an unimaginable loss while seeking justice.
