Eight Killed as Speeding Car Plows into Crowd Helping Accident Victims in UP
Eight were killed after a speeding car ploughs into bystanders gathered to help injured motorcycle collision victims.
At least eight people were killed in a tragic late-night accident after a speeding car ran over a group of bystanders who had gathered following a motorcycle collision in the district, police said on Monday. The incident occurred near Ashrafpur Bhua village along the Jalalpur-Akbarpur road at around 11:30 pm on Sunday, triggering panic and chaos at the scene.
According to officials, the sequence of events began when two motorcycles collided on the road, leaving two individuals injured. As local residents and passersby assembled to assist the victims, a car travelling at high speed lost control and ploughed into the crowd. The sudden impact caused severe injuries to multiple people, turning a rescue situation into a fatal accident within moments.
Emergency responders rushed the injured to a nearby community health centre, where doctors declared six people dead on arrival. Two others, who were critically injured, were referred to the district hospital and later shifted to a higher medical facility in Tanda for advanced treatment. However, both succumbed to their injuries, taking the total death toll in the incident to eight.

Police have identified the deceased as Kaifi (32), Uttam Kumar (24), Aditya Kumar (25), Lalchand (24), Raju Gupta (32), Chhotu, and two individuals whose identities are yet to be confirmed. Authorities are working to notify families and complete identification procedures for the unidentified victims as part of the ongoing investigation.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the crash, and a manhunt has been launched to trace and arrest the accused. Police officials stated that teams have been deployed and efforts are underway to gather evidence, including eyewitness accounts, to establish the sequence of events and responsibility for the accident.
Officials confirmed that a detailed investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the incident and assess any lapses. The tragedy highlights concerns over road safety and reckless driving, particularly in situations where crowds gather on highways following accidents, often exposing more people to danger.
