Eight injured in firing along Assam-Arunachal border over land row.
Eight Assam residents were injured in an alleged firing near the interstate border with Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday morning, officials said. The incident occurred in the Mingmang Badati area under the Gogamukh Revenue Circle and reportedly followed a dispute between two groups over alleged land encroachment.
According to preliminary information, the confrontation began after local residents objected to the alleged occupation of land in Assam by people from Arunachal Pradesh. The disagreement subsequently escalated, and a group from across the border allegedly opened indiscriminate fire at the Assam residents. Authorities have not yet released a complete account of the events leading to the violence.
Officials identified the injured as Durgheswar Patir, Rohit Dole, Nagaraj Dole, Biggeshwar Patir, Pame Pegu, Sanjay Tayung, Utpal Dole and Jan Dole. All eight victims were taken to Gogamukh Rural Hospital shortly after the incident, where they received initial medical treatment.

Seven of the injured were later transferred to Dhemaji Civil Hospital after their conditions were reported to be critical. Officials have not provided detailed information about the nature of their injuries or their latest medical condition. No deaths were reported, and it remained unclear whether any suspects had been detained.
The firing has renewed concerns about security and land-related tensions along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. Disagreements over territorial claims and alleged encroachments have previously caused friction between communities living near the interstate boundary, occasionally requiring intervention by police and administrative officials from both states.
Security was strengthened in and around Mingmang Basti following the incident, with additional police personnel deployed to prevent further violence. Authorities were working to establish the identities of those allegedly responsible and determine the precise sequence of events. Further details were expected after the completion of the preliminary investigation.
