Dumper Truck Drags Car 500 Metres; Driver Flees After Two Burn to Death on Jabalpur Highway
Dumper drags car 500 metres in Jabalpur; two burn to death, driver fleeing.
Two persons were burnt alive after a speeding dumper truck allegedly dragged their car for nearly 500 metres before it caught fire on the Jabalpur–Mandla highway in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district, police said. The horrific accident occurred near Sharda Temple in Barela town, around 30 km from Jabalpur city, on Saturday evening and left the local area in shock.
According to preliminary police information, the dumper rammed into the car and the vehicle reportedly became trapped beneath the heavy truck on impact. Instead of stopping, the driver allegedly continued driving, dragging the car along the road for nearly half a kilometre, causing further damage and worsening the situation on the busy highway stretch.
During the dragging, the car is believed to have collided with another vehicle before bursting into flames. Within minutes, the fire engulfed the entire vehicle, trapping both occupants inside. Despite efforts by nearby residents who rushed to the spot to assist, the intensity of the blaze made rescue attempts impossible.

Police said both occupants died on the spot due to severe burns before help could reach them. Fire brigade teams arrived shortly after being alerted and managed to extinguish the flames, but by then the vehicle had been completely gutted and the victims could not be saved.
Officials added that the bodies were severely charred, making immediate identification difficult. They have been sent for post-mortem examination, and authorities are working to establish the identities of the deceased while also determining the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal crash.
The dumper driver reportedly fled the scene after the accident, prompting police to launch a search operation to trace and arrest him. Investigators are also examining the remains of the vehicle and gathering evidence to understand how the collision escalated into such a deadly fire, while traffic on the Jabalpur–Mandla route was temporarily disrupted before being restored.
