Drunk Man Returns With Machete, Attacks Telangana Cops Over Breathalyzer Test

A Telangana man was arrested after returning with a machete to attack police following a failed drunk driving test.

Telangana Police arrested a man in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district after he allegedly attempted to attack police personnel with a machete during a routine drunk driving inspection. The incident took place in Manuguru on May 6 near a local temple, where officers were conducting vehicle checks and alcohol testing as part of a traffic enforcement drive.

According to police officials, the man was initially stopped while travelling on a cart during the inspection campaign. Officers suspected that he was under the influence of alcohol and subjected him to a breath analysis test. Police said the test reportedly showed a Blood Alcohol Content level of 80 BAC, after which the man was warned about drunk driving and instructed to return home instead of continuing his journey.

Authorities said the situation escalated shortly afterward when the individual allegedly returned to the checking location carrying a machete. Witnesses and police officials stated that the man confronted officers over the earlier alcohol test and attempted to intimidate or attack them with the weapon. A video from the scene, which has circulated widely on social media, shows the accused holding the machete while police personnel repeatedly try to persuade him to drop it.

Police teams at the spot managed to control the situation and disarm the accused before any injuries were reported. Officials said the man was taken into custody immediately and booked under relevant sections related to assault, criminal intimidation, and obstruction of public servants while performing official duties. The police have not yet released the full identity of the accused publicly as the investigation continues.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by law enforcement personnel during routine traffic enforcement operations and drunk driving checks. Telangana Police regularly conduct such drives across towns and highways to reduce road accidents caused by intoxicated driving. Officials say these checks are especially intensified during evenings and festival periods when cases of drunk driving tend to rise significantly.

Senior police officials have reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to threaten or attack officers during duty. Authorities have also appealed to the public to cooperate with enforcement drives and avoid confrontational behaviour during inspections. The case has attracted attention online after visuals from the incident spread rapidly across social media platforms, prompting widespread discussion about public safety and respect for law enforcement personnel.
