Drunk Headmaster Forces Students to Clean School Premises, Show-Cause Notice Issued

Students and parents at Amura Primary School have accused the headmaster of repeatedly arriving intoxicated, chewing and spitting gutkha on the premises, defecating inside the school and forcing children to clean the waste. Education officials have issued him a show-cause notice and forwarded a proposal seeking his suspension while the allegations are examined.

A Class 3 student alleged that the headmaster, identified as Kol, forced him to pick up human waste and verbally abused him. Other pupils claimed the teacher regularly arrived under the influence of alcohol and was unable to conduct basic lessons, including teaching multiplication tables. Parents said such treatment endangered the children’s physical health and caused serious emotional distress.

Villagers and guardians also accused the headmaster of regularly arriving several hours late, sometimes between 11 a.m. and noon. With no teacher present to direct them, children were allegedly left wandering around the school. Parents claimed regular classes were not conducted and the midday meal programme was disrupted, leaving pupils without proper instruction or food during school hours.

Radha Dwivedi, the mother of a student, alleged that children were made to sweep floors and fetch water in addition to cleaning after the headmaster. She said he had no fixed working schedule and frequently spat gutkha across the premises. Other parents, including Kranti Yadav and Rukmani Bunkar, raised similar concerns about the absence of teaching, supervision and meals.

When approached at the school, Kol was reportedly watching videos on a tablet and denied the accusations made by the students and their parents. Asked about the visible gutkha stains around the premises, he said they would be cleaned. The report described him as appearing intoxicated at the time, although no information was provided about whether officials conducted a medical examination to establish alcohol consumption.

Block Education Officer Rajesh Dwivedi said the matter had been brought to the department’s attention. The cluster principal served the headmaster with a show-cause notice seeking an explanation, while a recommendation for suspension was sent to the District Education Officer. Further administrative action is expected after officials review his response and investigate the complaints submitted by students and guardians.
