Drunk Engineer Rams Police Barricade, Injures Officer

Gurugram police arrest engineer for hitting sub-inspector with car.

On the night of August 24, 2025, a dramatic incident unfolded in Gurugram’s DLF Phase-2 area when a civil engineer, allegedly intoxicated, rammed his Maruti Swift Dzire into a police barricade on MG Road, injuring Sub-Inspector Lakhpat Rai. The Gurugram Police swiftly arrested the accused, identified as Sonu, a 41-year-old resident of Dariyapur village in Jhajjar district, Haryana, and seized his vehicle.

According to Sub-Inspector Rai’s complaint, the incident occurred during a routine vehicle check on Sunday evening. Rai and his team had set up a barricade to monitor traffic when they signaled Sonu’s approaching car to stop. Instead of complying, Sonu accelerated, crashing through the barricade and striking Rai, who fell to the ground. Undeterred, the accused sped over the fallen barricade toward Golf Course Road. Police pursued and intercepted the vehicle, apprehending Sonu on the spot.

An FIR was filed based on Rai’s complaint, and Sonu was produced in a city court on August 25, where he was remanded to judicial custody. During interrogation, Sonu revealed he works as a civil engineer at a private firm in Pachgaon and was driving from there to Sikandarpur at the time of the incident. Police confirmed he was inebriated, which likely contributed to his reckless actions.
