Drunk Driver Ploughs Into Kanwariyas in Ghaziabad, Thrashed by Angry Pilgrims
A drunk driver rammed into Kanwariyas in Ghaziabad, injuring three before being thrashed by angry devotees.
Tensions flared in Modinagar on Tuesday night after a drunk driver rammed his speeding car into a group of Kanwariyas, injuring three and sparking a dramatic confrontation on the streets.
The incident took place around 10:30 PM near Raj Choupala, where the group of devotees was returning to Mewat, Rajasthan, after collecting holy Ganga water from Haridwar. The sudden collision left three pilgrims — Harkesh, Om, and Anuj — injured and their sacred Kanwars damaged, according to police.
The accused, Rajiv Sharma, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time. Furious over the crash, the pilgrims vandalised his vehicle and physically assaulted him before police arrived at the scene.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Modinagar), Gyan Prakash Rai, confirmed that a medical test revealed the driver was intoxicated. He was taken into custody and treated at a private hospital for minor injuries. His car has been seized.
Despite the chaos, the Kanwariyas declined to file a complaint over the damage to their Kanwars and continued their spiritual journey.
Police have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken against the driver.
