Drunk ASI Kills Teacher, Injures Family in Neemuch; Public Fury Erupts Over Police Misconduct

Madhya Pradesh ASI's boozy crash kills teacher, injures kids.

A routine Friday evening on Neemuch-Jawad Road turned into a nightmare when Assistant Sub-Inspector Manoj Yadav, allegedly drunk behind the wheel, plowed his car into several motorbikes near Bharbhadia village, killing a local teacher and critically wounding his wife and two young children. Eyewitnesses described the horror: Yadav staggering from his vehicle, reeking of alcohol, as victims lay bleeding on the asphalt. Police seized a half-empty liquor bottle and glass from the car, confirming the officer's intoxication level far exceeded legal limits, sparking immediate outrage in the community.

The primary victim, 42-year-old Dashrath, a dedicated teacher at Gyanodya ITI College, was heading home with his family after a vegetable run when Yadav's SUV struck them head-on. Dashrath died on the spot from severe head trauma, while his wife Lalita Bai (35), son Harshit (10), and daughter Jaya (6) suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries, requiring urgent transfer to Indore's higher medical facility. A 44-year-old passerby, Bhopal from Athana village, also sustained leg injuries in the chaos. Locals, horrified by the scene, rushed the wounded to Neemuch District Hospital before blocking the highway in protest, chanting for justice against "lawless guardians of the law."

In response to the uproar, Neemuch Superintendent of Police Ankit Jaiswal swiftly suspended Yadav and launched a departmental probe, registering an FIR under sections for rash driving, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and endangering human life. Yadav, posted at Jawad police station, faces potential criminal charges as blood tests confirmed alcohol impairment. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav condemned the act, vowing zero tolerance for uniformed impunity, but grieving families demand a thorough SIT investigation to prevent cover-ups.

This tragedy underscores a disturbing surge in Madhya Pradesh law enforcement misconduct, mirroring earlier incidents that exposed systemic rot. Just Monday, an ITBP jawan, Deepak alias Rajendra Singh, drunk and erratic, rammed his car into four pedestrians near Bhopal Railway Station, only subdued by bystanders after a violent scuffle. Hours later in Indore's Raoji Bazaar, three uniformed cops, allegedly inebriated, struck two women outside a pharmacy, injuring bystanders in a reckless getaway that left the city fuming.

As Dashrath's children fight for life and his widow grapples with unimaginable loss, the Neemuch crash has ignited statewide calls for mandatory sobriety checks on police vehicles and stricter accountability. With over a dozen similar cases in MP this year alone, activists warn that without reforms—like body cams and breathalyzers—more innocents will pay the price for those sworn to protect them.
