Drug Bust! BSF Arrests Drug Lynchpin, Seizes Rs 6.77 Crore of Heroin

The Border Security Force (BSF) seized 3.387 kilograms of heroin worth Rs 6.77 crore

In a significant crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking, the Border Security Force (BSF) seized 3.387 kilograms of heroin worth Rs 6.77 crore along the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on Friday.

The operation, executed by vigilant troops of the Pirojpur Border Outpost under the South Bengal Frontier, also led to the arrest of a Bangladeshi smuggler, marking a major blow to narcotics smuggling networks in the region.

Acting on precise intelligence about a smuggling attempt near the Sadamachar area, BSF personnel heightened surveillance along the unfenced border stretch. Around 4 p.m., jawans spotted two individuals approaching from the Indian side.

When challenged, the suspects attempted to flee, but one was apprehended after a swift chase. A thorough search uncovered five packets containing a brown powdery substance, later confirmed as heroin through testing. The seized narcotics, valued at nearly Rs 6,77,40,000 on the black market, were intended for delivery across the border.

During interrogation, the detained smuggler confessed to sneaking into India to transport the drugs, revealing he was tasked by an Indian associate to deliver the consignment to a contact in Bangladesh for a small fee.

The BSF has handed over the suspect and the heroin to the relevant authorities for further investigation and legal action. DIG N.K. Pandey, spokesperson for the South Bengal Frontier, hailed the operation as a testament to the force’s relentless efforts to curb smuggling. “Our jawans’ courage and vigilance have once again thwarted a major drug trafficking bid,” he said, crediting their round-the-clock dedication.

This seizure underscores the BSF’s critical role in securing India’s borders and combating the rising menace of narcotics smuggling in the region.
