DRI Seizes 11.4 Kg Crystal Meth From Two Women at Secunderabad Railway Station

DRI arrests two women after seizing 11.4 kg of crystal meth hidden in bedsheets at a railway station.

In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 11.4 kilograms of amphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth, valued at approximately Rs 11.4 crore. Two women passengers were arrested at Secunderabad Railway Station after officials intercepted them while they were travelling by train, authorities said on Tuesday.

The action was carried out on the basis of specific intelligence inputs regarding suspected drug movement through the rail network. Officers reportedly conducted checks on passenger luggage and identified suspicious bags linked to the two women. Upon inspection, investigators discovered multiple concealed packets containing a white crystalline substance believed to be narcotics.

According to officials, the contraband was hidden using several layers to avoid detection. The substance had allegedly been packed inside ten transparent plastic packets, then wrapped in black polythene and covered with decorative paper. The packets were further concealed within bedsheets placed inside the luggage, suggesting an attempt to bypass routine screening methods.

Field testing conducted by enforcement personnel reportedly confirmed the seized material as amphetamine. The narcotics were confiscated under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Authorities said the quantity recovered represented a significant haul and highlighted the continued use of public transport routes for trafficking illegal substances.

Both accused women have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to determine the source of the consignment, its intended destination and whether a larger trafficking network was involved. Investigators are expected to examine travel records, communication links and possible associates connected to the operation.

Officials said the seizure has disrupted an organised drug supply chain and prevented a large quantity of harmful narcotics from reaching illegal markets. Law enforcement agencies have repeatedly warned that synthetic drugs pose serious risks, particularly to young people, and have intensified surveillance at airports, ports and railway stations to curb smuggling activities.
