Double Murder in Dumka, Daughter Alleges Boyfriend Behind Crime
Daughters injured, suspect boyfriend on the run.
A chilling double murder rocked Jharkhand’s Dumka district in the early hours of Tuesday, leaving an elderly couple dead and their two daughters injured in a brutal attack at Sundara Falan village under Shikaripara police station limits. The victims, Saheb Hembrom (60) and his wife Mangli Kisku (55), were killed around 3 AM with a sharp-edged weapon, while their daughters, Hiramani (32) and Beni (18), narrowly escaped with injuries and sought refuge at a relative’s home. The daughters were rushed to Dumka Sadar Hospital, where they are receiving treatment for their wounds.
Shikaripara police station officer-in-charge Amit Lakra revealed that Hiramani, the elder daughter, accused her boyfriend, Lokesh Murmu, a resident of Pakur, of committing the heinous crime. According to her statement, Murmu, who is disabled in one hand and unemployed, was furious over her parents’ refusal to approve their marriage. “The couple was murdered with a sharp-edged weapon, and the daughters managed to flee. We are investigating Hiramani’s claims about her boyfriend and working to establish the real motive behind this gruesome act,” Lakra told PTI. The bodies of Saheb and Mangli have been sent to Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital in Dumka for post-mortem examination.
Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend Murmu, who remains at large. Lakra noted that the suspect’s physical disability and lack of employment were key reasons for the Hembrom family’s opposition to the relationship, factors now central to the investigation. Authorities are combing through evidence, including statements from neighbors and relatives, to piece together the sequence of events leading to the attack. Preliminary findings suggest the assailant acted with premeditation, targeting the family in the dead of night, possibly driven by personal vendetta.
