DMK's Udhayanidhi Stalin Urges Cadres to Counter TVK Slogan With Om Kali Chant

Cadres urged to repeat rhyme at rallies and door-to-door outreach.

Tamil Nadu’s political campaign has seen a new slogan exchange between Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin, with both using rhyming chants to target their political rivals. During a campaign meeting in Madurantakam on September 27, Udhayanidhi asked DMK cadres to respond to Vijay’s repeated “Om Sakthi, Parasakthi” slogan with “Om Kali, Jai Kali... TVK oru Odugali”. He also urged party workers to use the new chant during rallies and door-to-door campaigning.

Vijay has used “Om Sakthi, Parasakthi... DMK oru Theeya Sakthi” during his political rallies, with the phrase being used to portray the DMK as an “evil force”. Udhayanidhi said the slogan had been used by Vijay for about two years while the DMK was in power and TVK was in the opposition. He told party workers that the political circumstances had now changed and asked them to repeat the counter-slogan at campaign events. The exchange has added a slogan-focused element to the ongoing contest between the two parties.

Udhayanidhi also used the Madurantakam campaign meeting to criticise Vijay over the Karur tragedy of September 2025, in which 41 people, including children, died during a crowd-related incident. He alleged that Vijay had arrived late for the campaign event and later left without responding to questions from people and journalists. These remarks were part of a wider political attack on the TVK leadership during the campaign. The allegations were made by Udhayanidhi during his speech and were not presented as an independent finding in the reports.

The DMK leader asked party workers to carry the counter-slogan beyond public meetings and use it while interacting with voters. He also linked his criticism of TVK to the upcoming electoral contest in the state, where the two parties are campaigning against each other. Udhayanidhi has made similar attacks on TVK during recent campaign appearances, including allegations concerning the party’s handling of governance and political developments. TVK and Vijay have previously used campaign messaging that directly targets the DMK and its leadership.

The slogan exchange has also prompted criticism from outside the two parties. BJP spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy criticised Udhayanidhi’s use of “Om Kali, Jai Kali”, arguing that the phrase refers to Hindu religious belief and worship. His comments represent the BJP’s response to the speech rather than an established assessment of the slogan’s intent. The development has therefore expanded the political debate beyond the TVK-DMK contest, with the wording of the campaign chant itself becoming a subject of criticism.

With campaigning continuing in Tamil Nadu, the exchange between “Om Sakthi, Parasakthi” and “Om Kali, Jai Kali” has become another feature of the political contest between TVK and DMK. Udhayanidhi has asked DMK cadres to repeat his counter-slogan at campaign meetings, while Vijay’s earlier slogan remains part of TVK’s attacks on the DMK. The two sides are continuing to focus on contrasting their political messaging as campaigning progresses.
