Didi Will Protect You and Your Property! Mamata's Call for Unity Against WAQF Bill

Didi’s Promise: No Divide, Only Unite, Says Mamata on Waqf Row

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed the minority community during the 'Navkar Mahamantra Divas' program in Kolkata on Wednesday, urging calm amid tensions over Waqf property issues. “I know you are pained by Waqf property, but have faith—there will be no divide and rule in Bengal,” she declared, reinforcing her stance against division.

Speaking on April 9, a day before Mahavir Jayanti, Mamata emphasized unity, asking minorities to spread a “live and let live” message. “It’s our work to give protection to those living in Bengal,” she assured, positioning herself as a steadfast guardian. Nicknamed “Didi,” she added, “Please remember that Didi will protect you and your property,” a personal pledge to safeguard their interests.

The CM also cautioned against political provocation, urging the community not to assemble if instigated. “If we stay together, we can conquer the world,” she rallied, blending reassurance with a call for solidarity. Her remarks come as the Waqf issue stirs debate nationwide, with critics accusing her of pandering to minorities for political gain—a charge she’s faced over policies like opposing CAA and NRC.

The 'Navkar Mahamantra Divas,' a Jain-inspired event promoting harmony, provided the backdrop for her outreach. Mamata’s message aligns with her long-standing narrative of inclusive governance in Bengal, even as the Waqf controversy tests her administration’s balancing act. For now, she’s banking on unity to quell unrest, promising protection over provocation in a state she vows to keep undivided.
