Delhi Police Nab Carjacking Mastermind After Two-Month Manhunt
Delhi Police arrest Ashad after a dramatic two-month chase across Delhi.
Delhi Police apprehended Ashad, the main accused in a violent carjacking incident that occurred in Vikaspuri, New Delhi, ending a two-month manhunt. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in a case that saw the suspect skillfully evade capture by frequently changing hideouts and mobile numbers, according to a senior police officer.
The incident took place on the night of May 19-20, 2025, when the complainant, Ajay Kumar, was driving home to Tilak Nagar. Around 1:30 am, near Gujrawala Apartments, five men on two-wheelers intercepted Kumar’s vehicle. The assailants allegedly dragged him out of his car, assaulted him, and fled with the vehicle, with Ashad identified as the primary perpetrator. Following the crime, Ashad, a resident of Uttam Nagar, went underground, employing evasive tactics to avoid law enforcement.
Acting on intelligence that Ashad was hiding in Deenpur, Najafgarh, Delhi Police set up a strategic trap, leading to his arrest. Investigations revealed that Ashad, who studied up to Class 12, turned to crime after developing a drinking habit. To maintain a low profile, he worked as a salesman in a garment shop while evading capture.
