Delhi Police Bust Dating App Robbery Gang After Man Loses Rs 7 Lakh in Nehru Place Trap

A man in Delhi was allegedly kidnapped and robbed of ₹7 lakh after being lured through a dating app, with police arresting five accused, including a woman, in connection with the case. The incident has once again raised concerns over the misuse of online platforms for organised crime.

The victim, Anuroop Narula, told police that he was contacted by a woman using the profile name “Sherry” on a dating app. She invited him to meet at Nehru Place, where the situation quickly turned into a nightmare upon his arrival. According to the complaint, three men accompanying the woman allegedly assaulted Narula and forcibly pushed him into a car. The accused then threatened him, attempted to strangle him, and forced him to transfer approximately ₹7 lakh using UPI, ATM cards, and credit cards.

After the robbery, the gang reportedly dropped the victim back at Nehru Place and warned him of dire consequences if he approached the police. Despite the threats, Narula filed a complaint, prompting swift action from the Delhi Police.

A police team led by ACP Ratan Lal and Inspector R.S. Dagar used CCTV footage, call detail records, and digital transaction data to track down the suspects. The accused—identified as Rishabh Raghav, Navojit, Sahil, Sanjay alias Joy, and Harleen Kaur alias Jenny—were later arrested from areas including Malviya Nagar.

Investigations revealed that Harleen allegedly used the dating app to lure victims, after which her accomplices would execute the robbery. Police have recovered two cars and five mobile phones used in the crime, and further investigation into the financial transactions and possible wider network is currently underway.
