Delhi Police Arrest 54-Year-Old Woman For Killing Daughters Aged 34 and 28

A Delhi mother was arrested after allegedly killing two daughters and attempting her own suicide.

A 54-year-old woman has been arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly killing her two adult daughters at their residence in Malviya Nagar in south Delhi earlier this month, in a case that has shocked the local community. Authorities said the incident, which initially appeared to be a murder-suicide attempt, took place on March 6 and is currently under detailed investigation.

According to police officials, the case came to light after a PCR call was received around 6 pm from the woman’s husband, who reported that his wife and daughters were not responding from inside their locked home. A police team rushed to the spot and found the house locked from within, prompting them to break open a window above the main door to gain entry into the premises.

Upon entering the house, officers discovered the elder daughter, aged 34 and reportedly intellectually challenged, lying in a room with a pillow placed on her face, suggesting possible suffocation. In another room, which had to be forcibly opened, the younger daughter, a 28-year-old law student, was found dead on a bed with a ligature around her neck, indicating strangulation.

The accused woman was found unconscious in a separate room and was immediately taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment. Doctors suspected that she had consumed a poisonous substance, possibly a mixture of phenyl and camphor recovered from the scene, and also noted that her wrists had been slit, pointing towards an alleged attempt to end her life after the incident.

Police initially registered a case of murder while awaiting the woman’s statement. After she was discharged from the hospital and underwent psychiatric evaluation, she was formally arrested. Officials stated that she has so far remained evasive during interrogation, making it difficult to establish a clear sequence of events leading to the deaths.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman may have been under significant emotional distress, reportedly stemming from a long-strained relationship with her husband, with whom she had not been on speaking terms for several years, along with financial dependency issues. Authorities have said that further investigation is ongoing to determine the precise motive and circumstances surrounding the crime.
