Delhi Horror! British Tourist Raped in Delhi by Instagram Friend

A British woman who traveled to Delhi to meet a man she befriended on Instagram was allegedly raped by him at a hotel in Mahipalpur, near the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The accused, identified as Kailash from Vasundhara, East Delhi, was arrested by Delhi Police on rape charges, while his friend Wasim faces molestation charges in connection with the incident.

The victim arrived in Delhi on March 11, 2025, and checked into a hotel in Mahipalpur, an area known for its budget accommodations catering to travelers. She had connected with Kailash through Instagram, where he frequently posted reels, and used Google Translate to communicate with him, overcoming a language barrier.

On the evening of her arrival, Kailash and Wasim visited her at the hotel. The trio reportedly consumed alcohol and shared dinner before moving to her room, where Kailash allegedly raped her against her will.

When she resisted and raised an alarm, Wasim entered the room and, instead of helping, allegedly molested her as she attempted to flee via the hotel lift.

The Delhi Police acted swiftly after the woman reported the assault, apprehending both suspects. Kailash has been charged with rape, while Wasim faces accusations of molestation.

The British High Commission has been informed to provide consular support to the victim, highlighting the international dimension of the case. The investigation is ongoing, with police examining the nature of the online relationship and the events leading up to the crime.

This incident underscores the risks of meeting strangers from social media in unfamiliar settings. Mahipalpur, a bustling hub near the airport, has seen its share of crime, but this case has drawn particular attention due to the victim’s status as a foreign national.
