Delhi 10/11 Probe: Suicide Bomber Had 12 Radical Videos Used to Recruit Educated Youth

Recovered videos show bomber teaching suicide attacks online.

Security agencies have retrieved 12 radical videos from the phone of Dr Umar Mohammad, alias Umar-un-Nabi, the suicide bomber whose explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort killed 15 people last week. A Kashmiri doctor recruited into a “white-collar terror module” at Al-Falah University in Haryana, Umar used these professionally shot clips over several months to radicalise and recruit educated youth through encrypted platforms.

In the videos, Umar repeatedly cited the Taliban’s defeats of Russia and America to convince viewers that a small group of believers could overthrow India. Speaking fluent English, he declared Islamic supremacy over other religions and told his audience: “If you have true faith in Allah, you can defeat India.” Sources say the calm, confident delivery made the message particularly dangerous for impressionable recruits.

Evidence shows Umar maintained a private circle where he shared both his own recordings and material from global extremists. One key recipient was co-conspirator Jasir Bilal, who initially resisted joining the attack. Chat records reveal Bilal’s gradual shift after weeks of exposure to Umar’s videos and personal encouragement, demonstrating how the material was used as a deliberate brainwashing tool.

Separate footage captures Umar conducting closed online sessions exclusively on suicide bombing. Calling it a “martyrdom operation,” he rejected claims that it violates Islamic prohibitions on suicide and urged followers not to fear death. “Only Allah decides when and where you die,” he said, framing the act as divinely sanctioned when performed for the cause.

Investigators now believe Umar detonated the Hyundai i20 bomb in panic after two senior module members, Dr Muzammil Shakeel and Dr Adil Rather, were arrested and 2,900 kg of explosives were seized in Faridabad. The premature blast near the Red Fort was likely meant to be far deadlier.
