Delhi 10/11 Probe: Security Agencies Search Staff Lockers at Jammu Medical Colleges
Security sweep intensifies in Jammu medical colleges.
Security agencies conducted extensive searches of staff lockers at Government Medical College Jammu and Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital on Tuesday as part of an ongoing investigation into a sophisticated interstate terror module comprising medical professionals. Every locker allocated to doctors, postgraduate students, nurses, and support staff was opened and meticulously examined.
Hospital authorities have replaced traditional name labels with numerical codes and introduced a dual-key system, retaining one key with the administration while providing the other to the allottee. Principal Dr Ashutosh Gupta stated that a dedicated committee has been constituted to verify and reassign all lockers, with entries now recorded in a master register to enable swift action in case of suspicion.
The enhanced measures follow the recovery of an AK-series assault rifle from a locker belonging to arrested doctor Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather at GMC Anantnag, as well as the involvement of several medical professionals in the November 10 Delhi suicide bombing executed by Dr Umar Mohammad. Similar inspections were completed last week across major hospitals in Srinagar, including GMC Srinagar and SMHS Hospital.

New protocols mandate regular unannounced checks and prohibit the issuance of No Objection Certificates or service books upon transfer unless lockers are formally inspected and handed over. Faculty members, paramedical staff, and students were earlier directed to label their lockers with name, designation, and code by November 14, with non-compliance attracting disciplinary action.
The crackdown reflects heightened vigilance across Jammu and Kashmir’s medical institutions after revelations that educated professionals allegedly used hospital premises and official positions to facilitate terror activities. Authorities have emphasised that these steps are essential to restore public confidence and prevent misuse of healthcare facilities for unlawful purposes.
