Delhi 10/11 Blast Update: Probe Links Delhi Doctor to Pulwama Mastermind’s Wife
Jaish women's brigade exposed in Delhi blast investigation.
Investigators examining the Jaish-e-Mohammed network responsible for the Delhi explosion and the seizure of explosives in Faridabad have established that Dr. Shaheen Saeed, a senior medical professional detained following the discovery of assault rifles and ammunition in her vehicle, maintained direct communication with Afirah Bibi, widow of Umar Farooq—the Jaish commander who masterminded the 2019 Pulwama attack that claimed the lives of 40 Central Reserve Police Force personnel. Official sources indicate these interactions formed part of a systematic effort to extend the terrorist organization’s operational footprint within India.
Afirah Bibi has assumed a central role in Jaish-e-Mohammed’s recently established women’s division, Jamaat-ul-Mominat, and was appointed to its Shura advisory council mere weeks prior to the blast in the national capital. Functioning in coordination with Sadia Azhar, sister of Jaish chief Masood Azhar, Afirah is reported to have utilized secure communication platforms to direct recruitment and operational planning. Intelligence assessments suggest the women’s wing was structured to leverage professional and academic environments to cultivate covert units capable of conducting sophisticated attacks while evading detection.
Dr. Shaheen Saeed, a Lucknow native who previously served as Head of the Department of Pharmacology at a medical college in Kanpur from 2012 to 2013, was assigned the responsibility of founding the Indian branch of Jamaat-ul-Mominat. Operating under the guise of her faculty position at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, she allegedly identified and indoctrinated women from academic and professional circles for terrorist activities. Her passport records confirm a two-year residence in the United Arab Emirates between 2016 and 2018, a period now subject to detailed examination for potential links to radicalization or funding networks. Colleagues described her as professionally accomplished yet increasingly unreliable, frequently absent from duties without prior notice or credible justification.

The former husband of Dr. Shaheen Saeed, Dr. Hayat Zafar, with whom she shares two children now in his custody, stated that contact ceased after their separation in 2012. He characterized her as non-religious and aspirational toward migration to Australia or Europe, expressing disbelief at the allegations. Her father has similarly rejected the possibility of her involvement in extremist activities. The explosion near the Red Fort resulted in 13 fatalities and 20 injuries, with two additional doctors from Al-Falah University implicated: one believed to have perished while detonating the device, and another currently in custody as the investigation continues.
