Dalit Youth Loses Eye in Brutal Attack Over Canal Defecation in Bhadohi
Dalit youth in UP's Bhadohi loses eyesight in one eye after brutal assault with motorcycle key over defecation dispute.
A shocking incident of alleged caste-based violence has emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi district, where a Dalit youth lost eyesight in one eye after being brutally assaulted. The incident occurred in the Aurai area and has raised serious concerns over continued atrocities against marginalised communities in rural regions.
According to police, the victim, Rahul, in his early twenties, had gone to a canal on Friday afternoon when an argument broke out with the accused, identified as Shankar Bind. The dispute reportedly began after the accused objected to Rahul defecating near the canal, which quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.
Police said the accused allegedly hurled caste-based abuses at Rahul before attacking him. When the victim attempted to flee, the attacker allegedly pierced Rahul’s left eye with a motorcycle key and threatened to kill him. Rahul collapsed on the spot in severe pain as locals rushed to the area, prompting the accused to flee.

The police reached the scene after receiving information and rushed the injured youth to a nearby community health centre. Due to the severity of the injury and loss of vision, Rahul was later shifted to the district hospital and subsequently referred to the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Trauma Centre in Varanasi for advanced medical treatment.
Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik confirmed that Rahul remains in critical condition. He stated that a case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Ram Dhani, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Police officials have assured that strict legal action will be taken against the accused and that efforts are underway to trace and arrest him. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing, as authorities examine all aspects of the case, including allegations of caste-based abuse and intent to cause grievous harm.
