Cybercrime Bust: 9 Nabbed in Jharkhand Scam

Police arrest 9 cybercriminals targeting victims nationwide.

Jharkhand police arrested nine cybercriminals, including five teenagers, in East Singhbhum district for running online scams, authorities announced Monday. The crackdown targeted two separate incidents, with six suspects caught in Kharaighutu forest under Kowali police station and three others apprehended at Rakhamines railway station.

Following intelligence inputs, a team led by DSP Sandip Bhagat raided the forest on Sunday, catching six youths operating fraudulent schemes via Telegram and WhatsApp. The group lured victims nationwide with fake online tasks like Google reviews and game ratings.

Caught red-handed using mobile phones, the suspects attempted to flee but were apprehended after a brief chase. Police seized nine mobile phones, including several iPhones, linked to multiple bank accounts, UPI IDs, and messaging app handles involved in fraudulent transactions.

In a separate operation, three cybercriminals were arrested at Rakhamines railway station after repeated complaints from victims across India. The arrests underscore the police’s intensified efforts to curb rising cybercrime in the region, with ongoing investigations to uncover additional accomplices and fraudulent networks.
