Criminal Injured After Crude Bomb Explodes in His Hand

Police say injured man linked to multiple criminal cases.

A 35-year-old man with a history of criminal activities was injured in a crude bomb blast in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Monday, sparking panic among locals. Identified as Divyajyoti Satapathy from Tirtol, the man was reportedly travelling on a motorcycle with an associate when the incident occurred near Karkei Haat under Balikuda police station limits. According to police, one of the crude bombs exploded in Satapathy’s hand, leaving him with burn injuries to his right arm, while another bomb fell onto the road.

The sudden blast sent shockwaves through the area, prompting locals to call the police. A team from Balikuda police station arrived quickly, rescued the injured man, and rushed him to the local community healthcare centre for treatment. Authorities also seized the unexploded bomb from the scene, which was later safely defused by a bomb disposal squad.

Inspector-in-charge Sushant Kumar Sahu confirmed that Satapathy has been implicated in several past criminal cases and that a manhunt is now underway to track down his associate, who fled the scene after the explosion. Police are also investigating the source of the explosives and the intended target, as the incident has raised serious concerns about illegal arms activity in the region.
