Commercial LPG Cylinder Prices Hiked In Delhi, Kolkata By Up To Rs 53.5

Businesses face higher fuel costs after latest LPG revision.

Commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder prices have been increased across key Indian cities from June 1, raising costs for businesses that rely on the fuel for daily operations. Oil marketing companies revised the rates of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders, with prices in Delhi rising by Rs 42 to Rs 3,113.50 per cylinder, while Kolkata witnessed a steeper increase of Rs 53.50, taking the rate to Rs 3,255.50.

The latest revision also affects smaller commercial users. The price of a 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder has been increased by Rs 11 and will now cost Rs 821.50 in Delhi. However, there has been no change in the prices of domestic LPG cylinders, providing relief to household consumers amid broader concerns over rising fuel costs.

The increase comes at a time when global energy markets are experiencing heightened volatility due to geopolitical tensions involving Iran. Concerns over disruptions to crude oil and energy supplies have contributed to uncertainty in international markets, prompting governments and energy companies worldwide to closely monitor supply chains and pricing trends.

India has also witnessed recent increases in petrol and diesel prices, adding to concerns about the impact of higher energy costs on businesses and consumers. Commercial LPG is widely used by restaurants, hotels, catering services and other establishments, meaning any increase in prices could potentially raise operating expenses for several sectors of the economy.

In response to evolving energy security concerns, the central government has directed oil marketing companies to prepare plans for maintaining LPG reserves capable of meeting demand for at least 30 days. The move is aimed at strengthening the country's preparedness against potential supply disruptions and ensuring uninterrupted availability of cooking fuel during periods of market instability.

While domestic consumers have been shielded from the latest revision, industry observers will continue to monitor global developments and crude oil price movements for indications of future changes in fuel costs. The trajectory of international energy markets, particularly in the Middle East, is expected to remain a key factor influencing LPG pricing in the coming months.
