Coimbatore Horror Deepens: Brothers in Gang Rape Linked to Similar Crime Last Year
Investigations reveal the Coimbatore gang rape accused had a past history of violent crimes.
The two brothers arrested in the Coimbatore college student gang rape case may have been serial offenders, with police uncovering their involvement in a similar assault committed last year. The accused, T Satheesh (30), also known as Karuppasamy, and his younger brother T Karthik (21), alias Kaleeswaran, reportedly attacked a couple in an isolated area under the Thirumuruganpoondi police limits in Tiruppur in 2024. Senior officials said the survivors had initially hesitated to approach the police, giving the serial offenders freedom to continue their criminal acts.
Coimbatore city police have classified the current case as a high priority and are pursuing a fast-track investigation. Commissioner A Saravana Sundar confirmed that substantial forensic and DNA evidence will be critical in completing the charge sheet within a month. Though there were no eyewitnesses, police have obtained clear CCTV footage showing the suspects’ movements at multiple locations near the Coimbatore airport. Statements from the survivor and her companion, along with the seized weapons, are expected to serve as key evidence in the case.
All three suspects, including their relative M Guna (20), were arrested after being shot in the leg during a police operation earlier this week. Investigations revealed that Satheesh had four prior criminal cases, while Karthik had five. Despite earlier arrests, both managed to evade long-term punishment, allegedly continuing their illegal activities, including extortion and theft, across Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts.

Chief Minister M K Stalin has instructed the police to expedite the legal process and ensure that the offenders face the maximum punishment. Authorities are conducting a Test Identification Parade (TIP) once the suspects recover from their injuries to confirm their roles in the assault. Police sources added they are committed to submitting the charge sheet within the next 30 days, far ahead of the standard 90-day deadline under BNSS provisions.
