CMRL Case: Mohamed Riyas Says He Will Legally Contest ED Charges

Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretariat member and Beypore MLA P.A. Mohamed Riyas has said he will legally fight the latest allegations reportedly raised by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the CMRL pay-off case. Riyas, who is also the son-in-law of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, rejected the allegations and described the reports as an attempt to damage his reputation.

In a Facebook post on Thursday morning, Riyas said media reports contained what he called “fresh, absurd claims” linked to the ED investigation. He said that if the allegations attributed to the ED investigation had indeed been included in a leaked report, they were fabricated and deliberately created to attack his character. Riyas also strongly denied reports that he had admitted to the alleged matters during questioning by the agency.

Riyas said the claim that he had acknowledged the allegations before the ED was completely false. He accused those responsible for circulating such information of attempting to portray unverified claims as established facts through reports linked to the investigation. His remarks came after reports emerged about fresh allegations in the case involving Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL).

The CMRL case concerns alleged payments and financial transactions that have been examined by the ED as part of its investigation. The agency has been looking into alleged financial links and payments involving political figures and others. The latest reports have brought renewed attention to the case and to allegations concerning people connected to Kerala's political establishment.

In his social media post, Riyas also criticised what he described as the circulation of information under the guise of an ED investigation. He said some people appeared to derive pleasure from what he portrayed as attempts to publicly attack individuals through such allegations. He maintained that the reports did not reflect the truth and reiterated his rejection of the claims attributed to him.

Riyas said he would respond to the allegations through legal means and continue to fight the matter in accordance with the law. The latest developments come as the ED investigation into the CMRL matter continues. The allegations reported in connection with the probe remain subject to investigation, and Riyas has categorically denied making the admissions attributed to him.
