CM Siddaramaiah Hints at Cabinet Reshuffle after November Term Completion
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah hints at a Cabinet reshuffle after November; a winter assembly session may follow in December.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday hinted at a potential Cabinet reshuffle after November, as his Congress-led government nears the halfway mark of its five-year term. Speaking to reporters in the state capital, Siddaramaiah indicated that the exercise would be undertaken post-November, aligning with political timelines and internal party assessments. The move comes amid growing demands from within the Congress for representation of various regions, communities, and senior legislators who were left out during the initial formation of the ministry in May 2023.
The chief minister also confirmed that the winter session of the Karnataka Assembly is likely to be held in December, providing a legislative platform to address pending bills and policy announcements. While no specific date was disclosed, the session is expected to focus on development initiatives, fiscal management, and responses to opposition criticism on issues like drought relief, urban flooding, and law and order. The reshuffle speculation has gained traction following recent public statements from several MLAs and district-level leaders pressing for inclusion or realignment of portfolios.
With the Congress holding a comfortable majority of 135 seats in the 224-member assembly, the reshuffle is seen as a strategic tool to balance factional dynamics and reward loyalty ahead of local body elections. Siddaramaiah, who has maintained firm control over the government despite internal challenges, emphasised that any changes would prioritise administrative efficiency and public welfare. Party sources suggest that vacancies created by resignations or disciplinary actions, along with performance reviews of existing ministers, will guide the process.

The development underscores the ongoing consolidation of power within the Karnataka Congress, which returned to office after a decade in 2023. As the state grapples with economic pressures and infrastructure demands, the anticipated Cabinet changes are poised to reshape political equations in Bengaluru and beyond. Official announcements are expected following consultations with the party high command in New Delhi, with the winter session likely serving as a formal backdrop for inductions and oath-taking ceremonies.
