Class 8 Girl Killed as DTC Bus Runs Over Scooter in Delhi's New Ashok Nagar

A Class 8 student was killed after a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus ran over the scooter she was travelling on with her uncle in East Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar area on Friday morning. According to police officials cited by news agency PTI, the girl was on her way to school when the accident occurred at around 8am. The collision caused the girl to fall from the scooter and come under the bus, resulting in fatal injuries. The incident took place during the morning hours as the girl and her uncle were travelling towards her school.

Police officials said the girl’s body was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in Kalyanpuri for medico-legal proceedings. Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision and are examining the sequence of events surrounding the accident. The identity of the Class 8 student has not been disclosed in the available report. Her uncle was also involved in the accident, though the report did not provide details about his condition or the injuries he may have sustained.

The DTC bus driver, identified by police as 45-year-old S K Murad, allegedly fled the scene following the accident. Police later apprehended him in connection with the incident. Investigators are expected to examine the bus, the scooter and other available evidence to establish how the collision occurred. The authorities are also likely to assess statements from witnesses and other material gathered from the accident site as part of the investigation.

The incident is separate from another fatal road accident reported in Delhi recently, in which a 70-year-old woman was killed after an allegedly drunk 27-year-old driver crashed a Mercedes into a WagonR near Narela. In that case, police said the Mercedes driver, identified as Shubham Sharma, was arrested and booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to rash and negligent driving and causing death and injuries. The case has also drawn attention to the risks posed by reckless driving on Delhi roads.

In the New Ashok Nagar case, police have taken the DTC driver into custody as the investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the Class 8 student’s death. The girl’s body has been sent for medico-legal proceedings, while investigators are working to establish the precise cause and sequence of the crash. Further details, including the nature of the injuries sustained by the girl’s uncle and whether additional action will be taken against the driver, are expected as the police inquiry progresses.
