Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai Urges Amit Shah To Approve Ayurveda Institute Proposal
CM seeks approval for Ayurveda institute in Chhattisgarh.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has urged Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah to approve the establishment of an All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in the state, positioning the proposal as part of a broader push to develop Chhattisgarh into a national centre for traditional medicine, research, and higher education.
The request was made during a meeting held in New Delhi, which was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma. The discussions covered key state development priorities, ongoing public welfare programmes, and regional infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on expanding healthcare and educational facilities in the state.
During the meeting, Sai highlighted the success of existing AIIAs in New Delhi and Goa, noting that these institutions have become centres of excellence by integrating traditional Ayurvedic systems with modern medical science. He said such institutes have not only strengthened healthcare delivery but also contributed significantly to the training of skilled doctors, researchers, and practitioners in the field of Ayurveda.

The chief minister argued that Chhattisgarh is uniquely placed to host a similar institute, citing its extensive forest cover, rich biodiversity, and abundance of medicinal plants. He also pointed to the traditional healing knowledge preserved by tribal communities across the state, describing it as an underutilised resource that could be further explored through structured research and institutional support.
Sai further stated that establishing an AIIA in Chhattisgarh would enhance access to advanced healthcare services for residents while simultaneously creating opportunities for higher education, research, and employment. He added that the proposed institute could serve as a regional hub for central India, attracting patients, students, and researchers from neighbouring states and contributing to the overall development of the region.
Referring to the Union Budget announcement regarding the establishment of three new AIIAs across the country, the chief minister urged the Centre to allocate one of these institutes to Chhattisgarh. He emphasised that the project would not only strengthen specialised education and healthcare infrastructure but also promote knowledge-driven economic growth in the state.
According to officials, Sai also briefed Shah on the progress of key infrastructure initiatives and welfare schemes being implemented in remote and security-sensitive regions such as Bastar. Union Minister Amit Shah, in response, appreciated the state government’s development efforts and assured continued support from the Centre for Chhattisgarh’s growth and welfare programmes.
