Chennai Student Feud Turns Violent as Country Bombs Used, 5 Arrested

Five students arrested after crude bomb attack in Chennai’s Maduravoyal during campus feud.

A violent confrontation between rival student groups erupted into bomb-hurling mayhem in Chennai’s Maduravoyal on Sunday night, resulting in the arrest of five college students. The clash, near Kamaraj Nagar, involved crude country-made explosives and left one participant injured, prompting an urgent police investigation into the weapons’ origins.

The detained individuals—Mayajothi (22), Vignesh (21), Ajith (20), Ashiq (20), and Jestin (19)—allegedly arrived at the residence of law student Naveen Kumar (20) under the influence of alcohol to settle a simmering dispute. The feud traces back three months when Naveen and his associates reportedly assaulted Pachaiyappa’s College student Arasan. Mayajothi had previously attempted mediation, but negotiations collapsed into further hostility.

Tensions detonated when a crude bomb was thrown from Naveen’s group, injuring Vignesh and escalating the brawl. Police swiftly intervened, securing the scene and apprehending the five suspects while launching a manhunt for Naveen and six accomplices. Authorities confirmed the use of at least one explosive device and are probing supply chains for the illicit bombs.
