Chandigarh Police Hunt Armed Gang After Brutal Market Murder; Family Demands Arrests First

Man hacked to death at Chandigarh market; family refuses autopsy.

A 20-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death with sharp-edged weapons at the Daria Industrial Area market in Chandigarh on Tuesday evening, triggering panic in the locality and prompting a police investigation. The victim, identified as Suraj, worked with a private company and was attacked in a crowded market area, according to police. The incident has led to heightened security concerns in the industrial and commercial zone.

Police said the attack took place when three to four armed assailants arrived at the market area in the evening and targeted the victim. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers used sharp-edged weapons to repeatedly strike Suraj before fleeing the scene. The sudden nature of the assault left bystanders shocked, with the victim collapsing on the road in a pool of blood.

Following the attack, Suraj sustained severe injuries and excessive blood loss, police said. Locals immediately alerted emergency services, and the injured man was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival, confirming that the injuries were fatal despite rapid attempts to provide medical assistance.

Police teams have since launched an investigation into the incident and are treating it as a case of targeted violence. Officials said multiple teams have been formed to trace the assailants, who escaped immediately after the attack. Preliminary findings suggest the attackers were known to the area, but their identities are yet to be confirmed.

Investigators are now examining CCTV footage from nearby shops and surrounding roads to identify the movement of the accused before and after the crime. Authorities are also speaking to eyewitnesses and local vendors to gather more details about the attackers and the possible motive behind the killing.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family has refused to consent to an autopsy, demanding that the accused be arrested first. They have urged police to take swift action and ensure justice for Suraj. The refusal has added another layer of complexity to the investigation, as officials continue efforts to proceed with legal formalities while maintaining communication with the family.
