CCTV Captures Thief Spending Hours Inside Varanasi Bike Showroom

A bizarre burglary at a motorcycle showroom in Varanasi has left police and employees stunned after a thief allegedly spent nearly four and a half hours inside the premises before stealing a new bike worth around ₹4.71 lakh. The unusual break-in took place at a Triumph automobile showroom, where the suspect was caught on CCTV engaging in a series of unexpected activities before fleeing with the motorcycle.

The showroom staff had locked the premises and left at around 10 pm on Monday, according to general manager Rohit Kumar Singh. His three-month-old KTM motorcycle, along with its key, was parked inside the showroom. Around 11.30 pm, a young man wearing a white shirt and jeans arrived outside. When rain began, he reportedly pulled down a banner and used it as cover before taking out a cutter and attempting to break through the glass entrance.

The suspect took around 36 minutes to cut through the glass and entered the showroom at approximately 12.06 am. Instead of immediately searching for valuables, however, he appeared to make himself comfortable. CCTV footage showed him switching on the reception computer, spinning around in the revolving chair and taking cold water from a refrigerator. He then reportedly prepared himself a cup of hot coffee inside the showroom.

The unusual sequence continued when the man entered the washroom and took a shower. He subsequently spread his wet clothes over a motorcycle to dry. He also reportedly opened a new motorcycle cover and wrapped it around himself like a lungi. The suspect then played music on the showroom computer and danced for some time before preparing to leave.

Before making his escape, the man reportedly changed into a branded showroom T-shirt and cap. At around 4 am, he finally took the manager's KTM motorcycle, started it using the available key and rode away from the showroom. The theft was discovered the following morning when a security guard noticed the broken glass and alerted the showroom manager.

Police and a forensic team subsequently reached the showroom and began examining the evidence. CCTV recordings captured the suspect's movements throughout his stay inside the premises, while investigators are also examining fingerprints and other forensic evidence. SHO Ajay Verma said police were using the available CCTV footage and fingerprints to identify the suspect, trace his movements and recover the stolen motorcycle.
