CBI Reconstructs Twisha Sharma Hanging Scene With Dummy, Tests Belt Strength

CBI reconstructs Twisha Sharma's death scene using a dummy and ligature tests.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday reconstructed the final moments leading up to the death of actor-model Twisha Sharma, who was found hanging at her marital residence in Bhopal on May 12. Investigators carried a noose, a belt, and an 80-kilogram dummy to the house in Katara Hills to recreate the sequence of events described by those present at the scene. The exercise forms part of the agency’s ongoing probe into the circumstances surrounding the young woman's death, which has drawn widespread public attention and allegations of dowry-related harassment.

According to investigators, Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, had previously stated during questioning that he removed her body from the noose after discovering her. His mother, retired district judge Giribala Singh, reportedly told investigators that she untied the knot around Twisha’s neck. The reconstruction was conducted to verify these claims and understand the exact sequence of actions taken after Twisha was found hanging. Both individuals were brought to the residence during the exercise to assist investigators.

During the reconstruction, CBI officials examined how the body could have been brought down and whether the version of events provided by the accused was physically possible. The agency also tested the strength of the ligature, reportedly a belt, to determine the amount of weight it could withstand. A team of six officials, including a female officer, inspected various parts of the residence as part of the detailed forensic and investigative review.

The developments come days after the CBI arrested Giribala Singh following the cancellation of her anticipatory bail by the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The court set aside an earlier order by a Bhopal sessions court that had granted her relief on May 15. Both Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh remain in CBI custody until June 2 as investigators continue questioning them and examining evidence related to the case.

Twisha Sharma had reportedly met Samarth Singh through a dating application in December 2024, and the couple married in 2025. Five months later, she was found dead at her in-laws’ home. Her family has alleged that she faced persistent dowry-related harassment and mental torture after marriage. Relatives claim that gifts and dowry provided during the wedding were repeatedly criticized as being below the expectations of her husband’s family.

Investigators are also examining digital evidence, including WhatsApp messages allegedly exchanged between Twisha and her mother. According to the family’s allegations, questions were raised about the paternity of a child she was carrying, and she was allegedly pressured to terminate her pregnancy. Sources indicate that the CBI is using an advanced investigative approach to reconstruct Twisha’s final hours and create a detailed minute-by-minute timeline of her movements, communications, and activities before her death.
