Jewellery, Cash from Delhi Government Officer’s Home stolen during vacation

A senior government officer’s residence in central Delhi was ransacked by thieves, who made off with expensive jewellery, lakhs in cash, and foreign currency while the family was vacationing in Spain and Italy, police reported on Thursday.

According to the FIR filed at Tughlaq Road police station, the officer and his family left for their trip on June 13 and were set to return on June 29. On the morning of June 29, while the officer was in transit at Abu Dhabi airport, his house help, Janki, alerted him at 8:47 am that the main door of the residence was broken. The officer instructed Janki and the residential guard, Manish Kumar, to inspect the premises. They discovered a broken safe and open cupboards, prompting a PCR call to the police.

Upon returning home at 9:30 pm, the officer confirmed the theft of valuables, including two sets of gold bangles (115 grams), a 16-gram diamond-studded bracelet, a gold chain, a gold pendant, multiple earrings, five gold rings, Rs 4-5 lakh in cash, and approximately 18,000 Thai Baht from official travel allowances. Most of the stolen jewellery belonged to the officer’s wife. The officer noted that additional missing items might be reported after a thorough check.
