Buckingham Palace Says It Will Stand Ready to Support Police Over Epstein Allegations

King Charles pledges royal cooperation with police probing Prince Andrew’s Epstein links.

King Charles III has publicly pledged that Buckingham Palace will support law enforcement if asked to assist in any police investigation into the deepening scandal involving his younger brother, Andrew Mountbatten‑Windsor, whose past ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein remain under scrutiny. The move represents a notable shift in how the British monarchy is handling allegations tied to the Epstein files and appears aimed at taking the “moral high ground” amid rising public and media pressure.

The commitment came after the Thames Valley Police — responsible for the area that includes Andrew’s former residence — said it was assessing new claims that the former prince may have shared confidential reports from his time as a UK trade envoy with Epstein. Buckingham Palace said the king had expressed “profound concern” about the continuing revelations and would stand ready to support authorities if approached.

The developments follow the release of millions of pages of U.S. Justice Department documents detailing aspects of Epstein’s network and his interactions with prominent figures, including Andrew. These files have raised fresh questions about the nature and extent of the former prince’s relationship with the disgraced financier, undermining earlier claims that ties had been severed after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor.

In an unprecedented series of actions, King Charles has already stripped Andrew of his royal titles, including the right to be called “prince,” and ordered him to vacate Royal Lodge, the estate he occupied for more than two decades. These steps, combined with public statements supporting Epstein’s victims, mark a significant departure from the monarchy’s traditional practice of handling internal crises quietly and privately.

Analysts say the king’s strategy reflects an attempt to safeguard the broader reputation of the British monarchy by demonstrating accountability and cooperation with law enforcement, even amid allegations involving a senior royal. While Andrew denies any wrongdoing, palace officials emphasized that the decision to assist police, if needed, aligns with modern expectations of transparency and justice.

The controversy rekindles scrutiny of the royal family’s response to Epstein and has drawn varied reactions from the public and political figures in the UK and abroad. Observers will be watching closely to see if and how official investigations proceed, and whether further cooperation from Buckingham Palace could influence perceptions of both the monarchy and the ongoing Epstein revelations.
