Brigadier And Son Assaulted In Vasant Enclave, Delhi LG Orders Security Review

Delhi LG orders security review after Brigadier and son assaulted in Vasant Enclave.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has directed the Delhi Police to provide full security to a serving Indian Army Brigadier and his family following a violent assault in the upscale Vasant Enclave area of southwest Delhi. The order came after the Brigadier and his son were allegedly attacked by a group of men late on Saturday night (April 11/12) after the officer objected to public drinking in a parked car near his residence.

The incident occurred around 10 pm when Brigadier Parminder Singh Arora (53), who is posted with an NCC unit in Gujarat and was visiting his family in Delhi, confronted two men consuming alcohol inside a luxury vehicle (registration DL3CCY 0789) in the residential lane. When the situation escalated, a group of seven to eight men allegedly arrived in multiple vehicles and assaulted the Brigadier and his 22/23-year-old son, Tejas Arora, an IIT graduate. The son sustained injuries, while the officer was manhandled. The family also alleged that the Brigadier’s wife was threatened during the confrontation.

The assault has sparked outrage over law and order in the national capital, with questions raised about the initial police response. Reports suggest that a PCR van was present at the scene but failed to intervene promptly. The family faced delays in registering an FIR at the Vasant Vihar police station, prompting criticism of police inaction. In response, an inspector has been shunted for alleged lapses, and the Delhi Police have since registered a case while initiating a probe to trace the accused.

The Indian Army has taken serious cognisance of the matter. In an official statement, it confirmed that a Military Police team has been directed to assist the officer, and the Delhi Police have been approached for an expeditious investigation and priority action. The incident has highlighted concerns regarding public safety in residential areas and respect for uniformed personnel.

Lieutenant Governor Saxena’s directive for full security underscores the gravity with which authorities are treating the case involving a senior military officer. The move aims to ensure the safety of the Brigadier’s family amid ongoing investigations. Political and social media reactions have amplified calls for swift justice, with many viewing the assault as symptomatic of broader issues of indiscipline and declining civic sense in urban spaces.

As the probe continues, the episode has reignited debates on enforcing laws against public drinking and ensuring prompt police intervention in such confrontations. The Delhi Police are expected to update on arrests and further security measures in the coming days, while the Army’s involvement signals institutional support for its personnel even during personal leave.
