#BreakingNews: UP Man Rescued from Cyber Slavery in Cambodia, Repatriated to India

Baghpat man rescued from cyber slavery syndicate in Cambodia and brought home.

A man from Baghpat district in Uttar Pradesh, identified as Vikas Rana, has been rescued from an alleged cyber slavery syndicate in Cambodia and safely repatriated to India, police confirmed on Saturday. Rana, a resident of Ghenaura Silver Nagar village, had traveled abroad seeking employment but was forcibly confined and compelled to participate in cyber-fraud activities orchestrated by a criminal network.

The ordeal came to light after Rana’s wife, Dolly, lodged a complaint stating that her husband was taken against his will and forced into illegal operations. Prompted by her complaint, senior police officials in the Meerut Zone and Range directed the Baghpat cyber cell to investigate. Confirmatory information revealed that groups prey on vulnerable youths by luring them with fake job offers overseas and coercing them into fraudulent online schemes.

Authorities maintained continuous communication with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Indian Embassy in Cambodia. Collaborative efforts with Cambodian officials led to Rana’s successful rescue from what police described as a "slavery centre," underscoring the transnational nature of cyber slavery crimes and the importance of bilateral cooperation.

Cyber slavery involves trafficking victims under false pretenses, then exploiting them to run online scams, a growing problem especially in parts of Southeast Asia including Cambodia. Recovering victims like Rana highlights the urgent need for awareness, tougher enforcement, and international coordination to combat these organized networks exploiting innocent job-seekers.

Rana’s return to India is a timely reminder of the risks associated with deceptive overseas employment schemes and the critical role of law enforcement and diplomatic channels in rescuing victims of modern slavery and cybercrime. Police continue to investigate and monitor such syndicates to prevent further exploitation.
