#BreakingNews: Three Wounded In Knife Attack At Winterthur Train Station In Switzerland
Terror suspect stabs three at Switzerland's Winterthur train station.
A man injured three people in a knife attack at Winterthur’s main train station in Switzerland on Thursday before being arrested by police, in what officials described as a “terrorist act.” The incident unfolded during the morning rush hour and triggered panic among commuters at one of the country’s busiest regional transport hubs.
According to authorities and witness accounts, the suspect suddenly began stabbing people at the station while reportedly shouting “Allahu akbar.” Three men, aged 28, 43, and 52, were injured in the attack. The oldest victim suffered serious stab wounds to the thigh and required emergency surgery, while the other two victims sustained injuries to the leg and neck. Both of the younger victims have since been discharged from hospital.
Swiss officials quickly characterised the incident as an act of terrorism. Mario Fehr, who is responsible for security in the canton of Zurich, said at a press briefing that he was “exceptionally calling this a terrorist attack.” Regional police commander Marius Weyermann also said investigators believed the motive “must be sought in the realm of radicalisation and extremism,” based on initial findings from the scene.

Police said they received the first emergency call at 8:28 am and arrested the suspect just five minutes later, at 8:33 am. Authorities confirmed that the attacker was swiftly subdued at the scene by security personnel, preventing further harm. Investigations into the full circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
The suspect has been identified as a 31-year-old Swiss-Turkish national. Officials said he had grown up in Winterthur and had a history of psychological issues. He had reportedly come to police attention more than a decade ago over allegations linked to the spread of Islamic State propaganda. Earlier this week, he also presented himself at a police station in an incoherent state and was taken to a psychiatric hospital, but was later released after being assessed as not posing an immediate danger.
Witnesses described scenes of chaos and fear as the attack unfolded. A taxi driver who saw the incident said the attacker tried to stab a man before being restrained, adding that rapid intervention by station security likely prevented a worse outcome. Other witnesses reported hearing repeated shouts of “Allahu akbar” and seeing commuters, including schoolchildren, fleeing in panic. The incident has shocked residents of Winterthur, a city located about 25 kilometres northeast of Zurich, where such attacks are considered rare.
