#BreakingNews: Sports Ground Turns Crime Scene as Kabaddi Star Shot Dead Before Hundreds
Kabaddi player and promoter Kanwar Digvijay Singh was shot dead in Mohali after attackers approached him posing as fans.
A prominent kabaddi player and event promoter, Kanwar Digvijay Singh—widely known as Rana Balachauria—was shot dead by unidentified assailants during a local tournament in Mohali's Sohana area on December 15, 2025. The attack occurred around 5:30 pm at a ground in Sector 82, where hundreds of spectators and players had gathered for an ongoing match. The assailants approached the victim under the pretext of taking selfies before firing multiple rounds at close range, striking him in the head and face.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as teams warmed up and prepared to enter the field. A group of men arrived near the venue in a Bolero vehicle, with some approaching Singh directly. Initial gunshots were mistaken by many for firecrackers, but panic ensued when the promoter collapsed. The sounds of firing were captured on the live stream of the event, which was being broadcast online.
Police officials, including DSP HS Bal, who was present as chief guest, rushed Singh to Fortis Hospital in Mohali, where he was declared brought dead. Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans confirmed that four to five rounds were fired at the victim, with no other injuries reported despite the crowded venue. After the shooting, the attackers fled, firing additional rounds into the air to deter pursuers who attempted to chase them.

Authorities have launched a thorough investigation, securing the site for forensic examination and reviewing CCTV footage from the ground and surrounding roads. Police are verifying whether the suspects escaped in the Bolero or on motorcycles while questioning eyewitnesses to identify the perpetrators and establish a motive.
The incident disrupted the tournament, with Punjabi singer Mankirat Aulakh, en route to attend, turning back upon hearing the news. The brazen daylight attack highlights ongoing concerns about targeted violence in Punjab's sports circles, often linked to rivalries or personal disputes.
As forensic teams collected evidence late into the evening, the kabaddi community mourned the loss of a key promoter, underscoring the need for enhanced security at public sporting events.
