#BreakingNews: Security Forces Launch Massive Operation in Udhampur Forests After Terror Sighting

Security forces launched a large-scale cordon and search operation in the dense upper forests of Basantgarh in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Friday morning after credible reports confirmed the sighting of two to three armed terrorists in the area. Troops from the Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police have fanned out across the rugged and hilly terrain, employing drones and canine units, though no contact has been established with the suspects so far.

The sudden alert has triggered heightened security measures across the entire Jammu division, with Border Security Force personnel and the Special Operations Group of J&K Police conducting intensive vehicle checks and area-domination exercises in multiple border villages. Sources indicate the operation is part of a proactive grid to prevent any possible infiltration or movement toward the hinterland.

In a parallel development, Jammu and Kashmir Police intensified its crackdown on the banned Jamaat-e-Islami, executing simultaneous raids at dozens of locations across seven districts of the Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar, Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Budgam, and Kupwara. The searches targeted residences, business establishments, and institutions linked to JeI office-bearers and overground workers.

Authorities seized documents, electronic devices, and other incriminating material during the raids, which were based on specific intelligence that certain elements within the outlawed organisation continue to engage in activities prejudicial to national security. Police emphasised that all legal protocols were strictly followed and urged citizens to cooperate fully with ongoing investigations.

The twin operations are linked to heightened counter-terrorism efforts following the November 10 car-bomb scare near Delhi’s Red Fort and the dismantling of a sophisticated “white-collar” terror module. Security agencies are now systematically targeting support networks, including inspections at select madrassas and mosques in Srinagar, as part of a broader strategy to choke funding, logistics, and ideological backing for militancy across Jammu and Kashmir.
