#BreakingNewsRs 5 Lakh Bounty Maoist Leader Killed in Chhattisgarh Encounter

Security forces kill Maoist area committee member with Rs 5 lakh bounty in Bijapur encounter.

Security forces scored a major success against Left-Wing Extremism on Friday after a senior Maoist leader was killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. The operation took place in the dense forests of the Indravati region under Bhairamgarh police station, an area long considered a stronghold of Maoist activity. Officials described the action as a significant setback for the insurgent network.

The encounter began around 6:00 a.m. when a District Reserve Guard (DRG) team launched a search operation based on specific intelligence inputs about Maoist movement in the Adwara–Kotameta forest belt. Shortly after the operation commenced, intermittent firing erupted as security personnel engaged armed Maoists hiding in the area.

Bijapur Superintendent of Police Dr Jitendra Yadav confirmed that one Maoist was neutralised during the exchange of fire. The deceased was identified as Fagnu Madvi, a 35-year-old Area Committee Member of the Bhairamgarh Area Committee, carrying a reward of ₹5 lakh on his head. His death is seen as a major blow to Maoist leadership in the region.

Security forces recovered a cache of arms and equipment from the encounter site, including a .303 rifle, a 9mm pistol, ammunition, radio communication devices, scanners, cordex wire, and Maoist literature. Officials said the seizure highlights the operational preparedness and logistical capabilities of the insurgent group.

Bastar Range Inspector General of Police P. Sundarraj said sustained and coordinated operations in 2025 have severely weakened Maoist structures in Bastar. He urged remaining cadres to surrender under the government’s rehabilitation policy. With no casualties reported among security forces, combing operations continue as authorities push toward the Centre’s March 2026 deadline to eliminate Left-Wing Extremism.
