#BreakingNews: Rs 29.4 Crore Meth Seized in Mizoram Drug Bust, One Arrested
Assam Rifles seize 9.8 kg methamphetamine worth Rs 29.4 crore in Mizoram, arrest one drug peddler.
A major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking occurred in Mizoram on Wednesday, as Assam Rifles troops seized methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 29.4 crore and arrested a suspected drug peddler, officials said on Thursday. The operation took place in the Zemabawk area of Aizawl district, based on credible intelligence about narcotics movement.
According to a defence spokesperson, the paramilitary personnel intercepted a suspicious vehicle and, with the help of a sniffer dog, discovered 9.8 kg of highly addictive methamphetamine tablets hidden inside the vehicle’s tyres. The operation was swift and precise, ensuring no harm to personnel or civilians during the seizure.
The arrested individual, identified as Lalrinchhana, a resident of Dawrkawn in Aizawl, was taken into custody. The seized contraband and vehicle have been handed over to the Aizawl Field Office of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for further investigation and legal action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

This seizure is part of broader efforts to curb narcotics trafficking in Mizoram, a state that shares long, unfenced borders with Myanmar (510 km) and Bangladesh (318 km). Myanmar’s Chin State is notorious as a hub for smuggling drugs, wildlife, and other contraband into Mizoram through six districts, including Champhai, Siaha, and Lawngtlai.
Authorities highlighted that this operation, combined with earlier seizures this week of methamphetamine tablets worth over Rs 40 crore, underscores the persistent threat posed by drug networks in the region. Law enforcement agencies have arrested multiple traffickers, including residents from southern Assam’s Sribhumi district.
The Assam Rifles emphasized that this decisive action reflects their ongoing commitment to safeguarding youth and communities from the harmful effects of narcotics, while maintaining peace and security in Mizoram. Officials urged continued vigilance along the porous borders to prevent further trafficking incidents.
