#BreakingNews: Professor Stabbed Dead in Crowded Local Train Dispute
Tragic killing at Malad station over minor train argument shocks commuters.
In a shocking incident that highlights the tensions of Mumbai’s bustling local trains, 33-year-old professor Alok Kumar Singh was fatally stabbed to death at Malad Railway Station on Saturday evening. The mathematics and statistics lecturer at NM College in Vile Parle was attacked by 27-year-old Omkar Shinde, a daily-wage labourer with no prior criminal record, following a heated argument on a Borivali-Churchgate local train.
The dispute erupted over basic boarding and alighting etiquette in the overcrowded compartment—a common trigger in Mumbai’s daily commute. As the train neared Malad, the verbal exchange escalated violently. Upon reaching the platform, Shinde allegedly pulled out a sharp knife and stabbed Singh multiple times in the abdomen. The professor collapsed in a pool of blood, while the attacker fled into the crowd and escaped across the foot overbridge.
CCTV footage from the station played a crucial role in cracking the case swiftly. It captured a man wearing a white shirt and blue jeans panicking and running away shortly after the attack. The Borivali Government Railway Police (GRP) used this visual evidence along with technical intelligence to trace Shinde to Vasai, arresting him within 12 hours of the crime. Police are probing whether any prior enmity existed or if other factors fueled the extreme brutality.

The murder has sent ripples of fear through Mumbai’s millions of daily commuters, who rely on the local network as the city’s lifeline. Colleagues described Singh as a simple, calm individual who rarely lost his temper. His body was sent for post-mortem, and investigations continue to uncover any deeper motives behind the seemingly trivial trigger. This tragic event serves as a grim reminder of how quickly minor frictions can turn deadly in India’s crowded urban transport systems.
