#BreakingNews: Karnataka DGP Suspended Over Viral Sleazy Videos Scandal

Top Karnataka cop suspended after compromising videos go viral.

Karnataka Director General of Police (Civil Rights Enforcement) K Ramachandra Rao was placed under immediate suspension on Monday following the circulation of multiple unverified videos and audio clips purportedly showing him in compromising situations with women. The clips, which appeared to have been recorded in what looked like his office, quickly spread across social media, sparking widespread outrage and embarrassment for the state government. The suspension order explicitly cited his alleged “obscene manner unbecoming of a government servant” and the resulting disrepute caused to the administration.

The Karnataka government stated it was prima facie convinced that Rao’s conduct violated service rules, necessitating his suspension pending a detailed inquiry. During this period, the senior IPS officer is barred from leaving headquarters without explicit written permission from the state authorities. The swift action reflects the administration’s resolve to address the controversy decisively and maintain public trust in law enforcement institutions. An official probe has been initiated to verify the authenticity of the material and determine the circumstances surrounding its creation and dissemination.

Rao, a 1993-batch IPS officer, strongly denied the allegations, describing the videos as “fabricated and false.” Speaking to reporters outside Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara’s residence—where he unsuccessfully sought a meeting—he expressed shock and confusion about the origins of the clips. He speculated that if the footage was old, it might date back around eight years to his posting in Belagavi. Rao claimed complete ignorance about how or when such material could have surfaced, suggesting possible malicious intent behind the leak in the current digital era.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah responded firmly to the development, stating that disciplinary proceedings would follow if Rao was found guilty. “No one is above the law, notwithstanding how senior the police officer is,” he emphasized. BJP leader and former minister S Suresh Kumar condemned the episode as a “disgraceful act” that tarnished the entire police force’s reputation, particularly since it allegedly occurred in uniform and within official premises. The incident has prompted renewed scrutiny of conduct standards for high-ranking officials.

This is not the first controversy surrounding K Ramachandra Rao. Last year, he faced accusations of misusing his position to shield his stepdaughter, actor Ranya Rao, from customs and police scrutiny during a gold smuggling case. Those allegations led to his compulsory leave from the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation in March, though he was later reinstated after an investigation. In August, he assumed his current role as DGP (Civil Rights Enforcement). The latest scandal has intensified calls for accountability and transparency within the state’s police leadership.
